WHAT WE BELIEVE
Christians believe Jesus Christ to be the Son of God who came to earth in human form. He was executed on a cross, died and was buried, and on the third day actually rose from the dead and over a period of 50 days was seen by many witnesses before his bodily ascension from earth into heaven
God’s purpose for Jesus coming and dying was to pay the penalty of mankind’s Sin – which undealt with leads to eternal separation from God. As the person of God that was involved in Creation, Jesus alone was capable of actually paying the penalty for the sins of all mankind. He was divine – not just a good man.
Christians believe this and by putting their trust (faith) in him, and repenting of their past sins, Jesus’ death becomes personally effective for them, and they can begin to experience the new life – the spiritual life – that Jesus gives to all who believe in him.
Jesus’s words to Nicodemus in John 3:16 were “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life”
We become Christians through faith – by believing in Jesus, not specifically by doing good things. “Good deeds” should be a product of such a faith and new life.
Christians believe the whole Bible to be the inspired word of God himself. We see it as our Maker’s handbook for every human being. Can a book written so many years ago still be relevant in modern times? Yes, indeed. Handbooks are always relevant just as long as the original model is still in use!
May we commend it to you to read. Perhaps start by reading John’s Gospel, which contains the essence of Christian belief – from Creation to the end of time.
